DAVAO CITY – For giving honor to Panabo City and the Philippines in general in local, national and international chess tournaments, the youngest Arena Grand Master (AGM) in the Philippines is one of the nominees for the 2021 Most Outstanding Panaboan Awards.

The nomination of AGM Christian Gian Karlo Arca,11 is well deserved since he literally put Panabo on the global sport’s maps with his recent achievements in online chess.

The Most Oustanding Panaboan award is part of the Araw ng Panabo Award in March.

Recently, Arca proved that his chess title is no fluke. This developed after Arca won the two tough online chess tournaments in a span of two successive days.

On Valentines’ day, Arca joined forces with April Joy Claros of Pampanga to rule the Dalawahan Valentine’s Day tournament.

Arca and Claros who both played in the World Cadets chess championship scored 39 points to win the duo chess tournament.

The following day, Arca won the 2nd United Queens Chess Club (UQCC) Kiddies Cup 2021 13 and under chess tournament.

Arca scored 5.5 to win the tournament which features some of the top young chessers in the country. The Panaboan won P500 cash as a prize.

Last February 7, Arca also won the 14th AFPI Chess Arena.

Arca scored 48 points to win the tournament and participated in by 58 of the top 17 and under players in the Philippines.

The tournament was earlier organized by Grandmaster Jayson Gonzales and Women Fide Master Michelle Yaon of the Philippine Academy for Chess Excellence (PACE).
