Police records 53rd COVID death

DAVAO CITY – Another member of the Philippine National Police (PNP) died due to COVID-19 bringing the total number of deaths to 53.

PNP Chief General Debold M Sinas announced today (April 25) that the latest fatality is a 54-year-old male with a rank of Police Lieutenant who was assigned at PNP Camp Crame Headquarters.

He said the patient was hospitalized on April 14 due to COVID- 19 infection. He was undergoing a Hemoperfusion procedure to cleanse his blood and prevent aggravating his condition.

He was supposed to undergo hemodialysis but was not able to pursue due to unstable blood pressure and low oxygen level. He died yesterday (April 24).

“The entire PNP would like to extend our condolences to the bereaved family of the police officer and assure them of financial assistance and benefits,” Sinas in a statement said.

Sinas reminded all his personnel to double their protection against the virus as frontliners.

“If you are not feeling well, immediately seek medical attention. Avail of the free consultation,” Sinas added.

As of April 24, the PNP Health Service recorded 141 new cases of COVID-19 bringing the total number of cases to 19,536 with 2, 065 active cases.
