DAVAO CITY – The National Task Force against COVID-19 (NTF-COVID19) has agreed on the request of Senator Bong Go to include the media as priority sector in the COVID-19 vaccination program of the government.

This was confirmed by Go on Thursday after the distribution of government assistance to the fisherfolks of Island Garden City of Samal .

The senator said NTF on COVID-19 chief implementer and vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez  Jr., affirmed his  proposal that the media should be next to the frontliners based on their talk on February 18.

“Nakiusap po ako sa kanila kasi po ang media ay parang frontliners na po ito (I appealed to them because media are also like frontliners),”  he said.

Go said the role of media is very important during this time of pandemic since these are the sectors who are disseminating information to the people.

“Halimbawa po ngayon, information campaign about the vaccine, paano natin i-disseminate and information ng vaccine na dapat itong pagkatiwalaan ng Pilipino? Eh, sino ba ang nagdadala ng balita? Kayo po mga media (For examle this time of inforamtion campaign about the vaccine, how the information about the vaccine will be disseminated that Filipinos will trust on it? Who is giving the  information to the people? You, the media sector),” he said.

He said the media practitioners are also exposed to the virus since they cover events and sometimes go to the area which are considered high risk.

“Dapat protektahan din natin ang ating mga media (We should also protect our media practitioners),” he said.
