DAVAO CITY – The Cotabato City government is now implementing a No RT-PCR, No Entry at Awang Airport after 10 passengers of Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines arrived on Saturday got positive with COVID-19 through antigen rapid test conducted by City Health Office personnel.

Cotabato City Mayor Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi said in her statement, starting Monday, March 29, all air passengers arriving at the said airport need to submit a negative RT-PCR result and letter of acceptance from the local government before they will be allowed to exit in the airport.

Guiani said that antigen and saliva test result will not be accepted at the airport.

“Alam ko po na nakaka-bigla ang mga pagbabago na ating ipinapatupad pero hinihiling ko po ang pag-iintindi ng aking mga kababayan lalo’t para naman ito sa kaligtasan nating lahat dito sa Cotabato City (I know that that the sudden change of protocols is surprising, but, I am appealing to the understanding of my constituents especially this for the safety and welfare of the people of Cotabato City),” she said.

Guiani said the spike of COVID-19 cases in National Capital Region (NCR) makes her worried because of the thousands of cases being recorded which prompted the local government to implement stricter protocols.

” Kung inyo pong nababalitaan, halos napupuno na ang lahat ng mga pagamutan sa kalakhang Maynila na tumatanggap ng COVID-19 patients dahil sa dami ng isinusugod dito araw-araw (As you heard in the news, all hospitals there are in full capacity due to the numerous patients being rushed in all its medical facilities), ” she said.

” Hindi ko po ninanais na mangyari ito dito sa atin kung kaya itinataas po nating muli ang ating pag-iingat (I do not want that to happen in our area that is why I raise the alarm so that people will need to be vigilant), “Guiani added.

The mayor urged the people if possible, not to travel outside the city if it is not essential.

“Napakalakas po ng epekto ng bagong strain or variant ng virus at mabilis na humihina ang katawan ng sinumang apektado nito ( The new strain or variant has a really strong effect to anyone thay could easily weaken the body of any affected person),” she said.

Meanwhile, Guiani said the passengers who were found positive through antigen need to undergo a five to seven days self-isolation while waiting for the RT-PCR swab test result.

She said these people are going to be monitored by the Barangay Health and Emergency Response Team and anyone who violates the quarantine rules will suffer penalty.
