DAVAO CITY – There is no lockdown in Region 11 or Davao Region, which includes this city, Mayor Sara Duterte confirmed.
“We are not aware of any lockdown here in Davao Region and I understand there is a talk going around about a lockdown in Davao Region.
First, I would like to explain that Davao Region is not Davao City.
Davao Region means Region 11 which includes the provinces of Davao Occidental, Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, Davao de Oro and Davao Oriental plus the highly urbanized city Davao City.
And then next, the Davao City Covid-19 Task Force is not aware of the region’s lockdown,” she said in a radio interview Monday (May 3).
The mayor made the statement following speculations circulating in the social media of a certain lockdown in the city and Region 11.
Duterte clarified that it is a uniform border control and its guidelines and rules will be up to the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force (RIATF) and Regional Task Force (RTF).
She said all COVID responses in the region are under the RIATF and RTF.
”Anything that needs to be implemented within the region will be coming from them. We should listen, wait, and follow the RIATF and RTF as the operation or the implementing arm. If they do not say anything yet, so let us not speculate or release bits and pieces of incomplete information so that the public will not be confused,” Duterte said.
She also clarified that since the RIATF and RTF impose uniform border control, they are the ones who can only discuss the implementing rules and guidelines.
“We will wait for their guidelines as to what they are implementing at the regional border. For Davao City, we do not have an additional requirement for the returning residents for now. Air travelers under the ordinance and then land travelers are depending on the screening. We only test those in the areas with high COVID-19 cases which are in Visayas and NCR plus bubble,” she explained.
Duterte also expressed concern about the confusion brought about by the regional border controls which are being planned by the RIATF and RTF.
“As what I have said, let’s wait for RIATF and RTF to release, bring down that guide for us to follow,” she added.
Since the guidelines are not out yet, Duterte clarified that there are no restrictions in traveling within the region.
“You only need to comply with the requirements to travel,” she further added.
