DAVAO CITY – After completing their Community Support Training, the 48th Infantry Battalion community development teams were sent off to assist local government units and peace partners to implement convergence programs in conflict affected areas.
Major Jerry Lamosao, the 10th Infantry Division Public Affairs Office chief said community development teams aim to support the local peace building initiatives of the 701st Infantry Brigade in its goal for Zero New Peoples Army, Zero Recruitment and Zero Support to the local communist group.
The soldiers will also strengthen the support and capacity building of various peoples’ organizations, assist and facilitate the delivery of basic services, help fill-in the gaps by identifying prevailing issues and concerns in focused communities and safely deliver quality service by amplifying government presence in priority barangays.
Surigao del Sur Executive Assistant Inocencio Sayawan, in his message, expressed their support on behalf of the Provincial Government of Surigao del Sur to facilitate unity and foster convergence of all sectors of society to end violence.
To highlight the event, local civilian, military and police leaders signed the Local Peace building Initiative “Guardians” that stipulates the commitment of peace players in support to President Rodrigo Duterte’s vision to defeat insurgency by 2022.
Brigadier General Mortela of 701st Brigade said, “My expectation is high for 48IB which is one of the best units of the Philippine Army. I believe that fifty percent of what you need has already been acquired in training, the rest you will definitely learn it during your deployment.”
Lieutenant Colonel Enrique G. Rafael , commanding officer of 48IB thanked all local stakeholders for the warm welcome particularly by the provincial and local governments of Surigao del Sur.
“This is just the start of our strong partnership for peace, progress and further development,” Rafael said.
