DAVAO CITY – Ninety-five dependents of the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) in the region benefited the education assistance of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and its partner agencies.
The beneficiaries were the dependents of the active/inactive OWWA members including those undocumented OFWs who were repatriated, displaced or deceased because of COVID-19.
The Tabang OFW (Tertiary Education Subsidy for Dependents of OFWs) program is responding to the directive of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to provide aid like training and scholarship to dependents of repatriated OFWs who have lost their jobs due to health crisis.
The Tabang OFW is a one-time grant of P30,000 given to one college-level dependent of an OFW affected by the pandemic.
Emman Gabrielle Polancos, son of a truck driver in Jordan, thanked the government for the great opportunity given to him because he said, through the financial assistance, the financial burden of his parents was lessened.
Another beneficiary, Kishia Marie Ainza, whose father worked as cruise chef and lost his job due to the pandemic also thanked the Tabang OFW program because her parents will no longer find difficulty to pay for her tuition fee.
